The Black Rider is an album that consists of songs Waits wrote for the play “THE BLACK RIDER” directed by Robert Wilson and written by William Burroughs. This semi-mythological narrative of passion and death is the perfect inspiration for Waits. While similar in style to his mid-80s work the album features a slight European tinge. And with lyrics from no other than William S. Burroughs, Waits is able to fully envelop the heavy influence of the ‘50s beat writers into his inventive compositions.
